Fender Custom Shop SRV Signature Stratocaster NOS, Rosewood, 3 Colour Sunburst Overview

If there were seven official wonders of the Stratocaster world, Stevie Ray Vaughan would undoubtedly be one of the greats enshrined on the list. Perhaps THE major player in the electric blues revival of the 80s and 90s, his beloved sunburst Strat® was essential to his blaze to the top of the charts, and hearts of guitarists everywhere.

Stevie heavily modified his Strat to compliment his monumental playing, so a trio of hot, high-output Custom Shop Hand-Wound Texas Special pickups have been employed for a fiery, authentically Fender tone that’s as big as the Lone Star state. And, as an homage to his hero, Jimi Hendrix, SRV used a left-handed vintage-style tremolo bridge on his guitar, which allowed him to work the tremolo arm with his elbow - a modification which has been perfectly recreated with this model, as has SRV's favourite neck profile; the tinted riftsawn maple neck has an “Oval C” profile that’s slightly thinner on the treble side, making it easier to bend those strings high into the stratosphere.

Other features include 5-way pickup switching, vintage-style wiring, 3-ply Black “SRV” pickguard, vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut and round string tree, select two-piece Alder body, and a nitro NOS lacquer finish which will age and wear in a distinctly personal way. A deluxe hardshell case, strap and Certificate of Authenticity are also included.

Only the artisans at the Custom Shop could craft the guitar that Vaughan co-designed with Fender before his untimely passing - one of the most revered guitars in the world.

What Fender say:

A Fender Custom Shop instrument is extraordinary. You know it when you play one, it’s definitely more than the sum of its parts. It’s filled with intangible, electrifying elements that add a new dimension to your playing experience. It’s as if the instrument itself is imbued with history, alive with the spirit of the place where it was built and the devotion of those who crafted it. The Custom Shop is home to Fender’s most skilled and talented builders. It’s a bustling, noisy and creatively volcanic place that re-earns its nickname "The Dream Factory" every day. Custom Shop builders are completely dedicated to their art, part craftsman, part artist, part music fan and, more often than not, part mad scientist. They’re the best at what they do, and they pour all of their passion, hard-earned knowledge and skill into every instrument they build. It’s no ordinary place, and the creations that come from it are no ordinary instruments.
