Catalinbread RAH HiWatt Overdrive Pedal Overview
Strap on your Les Paul and ride the stairway to tone heaven with the Catalinbread RAH. This incredible amp-in-a-box has been painstakingly crafted to emulate Jimmy Page’s tone at the legendary Albert Hall gig. Whilst the RAH works nails Led Zeppelin-style tones, it’s an all-round tone machine that can be sculpted to your unique style.
Foundation Overdrive
The RAH is a member of Catalinbread’s Foundation Overdrive family of pedals. They can act as both a traditional overdrive pedal and as a potent tone enhancer that's always switched on. The RAH excels as the fundamental “foundation” of your guitar tone, providing a rich, amp-like response to any rig. With your amp acting like a power-amp, you can use the RAH as a virtual pre-amp that can then be stacked with other drive, fuzz and gain pedals.
The Foundation Overdrive series features a tonne of amp flavours, from classic Marshalls to prized Fenders. The RAH takes it a step further, capturing the sound of an entire rig in one pedalboard-friendly stompbox.
Rock God Tone
Catalinbread have poured a whole lotta love into the design of the RAH - you can tell as soon as you bring it on home and plug it in. The RAH accurately emulates Jimmy Page’s custom HiWatt heads-into-Marshall cabinets setup that he used at Led Zeppelin’s landmark Royal Albert Hall show. The sound of this is unmistakably amp-like, with all the warmth and responsiveness that you’d expect from the real deal.
Jimmy Page had to rely on the interplay between his playing, his Les Paul’s controls and his amp to coax out his wide tonal palette - which is why the RAH’s sound is beautifully open, uncompressed and dynamic. With the RAH, you can switch from soft & delicate to overdriven & raucous by simply varying your touch, changing pickups or adjusting your volume control.
Interactive Tone Circuit
The Gain control behaves like the “Input Volume” knob on JP’s custom HiWatt head and can enter fuzz-like territory when cranked all the way.
Not only have Catalinbread emulated the crunch and clarity of JP’s HiWatt rig, they’ve also recreated the all-important tone circuits - providing the RAH with the same tonal response. As a result, the Treble, Middle & Bass knobs are highly interactive and behave differently depending on where they’re set. From experimenting and tweaking these knobs, you can discover a world of new tones.
If you’re a Led Zeppelin fan, the RAH is a no-brainer as it gets you a lot closer to Jimmy Page’s incredible sound. However, the RAH is a lot more than LZ-in-a-box and can inspire you to write earth-shattering riffs in your own style. Player’s that appreciate a dynamic and nuanced playing experience will love the RAH too.
