Catalinbread Adineko Delay Pedal Overview

The Catalinbread Adineko is an authentic recreation of a vintage Oil Can delay unit in a compact stompbox size. Not only have Catalinbread put this unique vintage sound in a more affordable & reliable package, they’ve also expanded on it whilst retaining the key characteristics that made the original so special.

Authentic Vintage Tone

Catalinbread’s Delay & Reverb series features stunningly authentic recreations of vintage units, condensing their inherent characteristics into road-worthy, pedalboard-friendly pedals. The Adineko is part of this family, with a sound and response that’s indistinguishable from a vintage Oil Can delay. These unique-sounding delays have a tonal flavour all of their own, thanks to a distinct electro-mechanical design that incorporated a “mysterious” oil. The result is a beautifully lo-fi, murky sound with a musical vibrato that stood out from the more common tape & drum head designs of the day.

Upgraded Features

With the Adineko, Catalinbread have combined their deep knowledge of these sought-after units with their design ingenuity to create a truly authentic sonic replication of the Oil Can delay sound - with some much-needed enhancements.

Expanded Delay Time

The original units, whilst sounding fantastic, had a severely limited and fixed delay time (80-120ms). Catalinbread have forgone this shortcoming with the Adineko, giving you up to 1 second of glorious modulated delay. This greatly expands the sonic possibilities, allowing you to go from slick slapbacks to otherworldly faux reverbs.

Viscosity Control

In the original units, the oil would viscosity (thickness) would start to reduce as it heated up - which would reduce the amount of warble. The Viscosity control, which acts as a Modulation depth, allows you to alter the thickness of the “oil” and emulate older units where the thickness is incorrect.

Two Effects In One

The Adineko is effectively two effects in one. With the Viscosity & Balance turned up and the Reverb, Timing & Balance turned down, the Adineko transforms into a lush Vibrato effect that’s reminiscent of a Tel-Ray Deluxe Organ. Plus, the Adineko’s preamp stages have been carefully designed to emulate the original unit’s valve-based ones.

Self-oscillating Soundscapes

If you’re into ethereal and chaotic effects, you’ll be pleased to know that the Adineko can pull off swirling self-oscillations when the Reverb knob (which acts as a feedback control) is cranked up. At slightly lower settings, you can use the Adineko to conjure a warm bed of ambience behind your playing.

Blendable Playback Heads

Another upgraded feature in the Adineko is the ability to continuously alter the position of the playback heads. With the original Oil Can delays, you had a choice of two playback heads that could be used separately or simultaneously. With the Adineko, Catalinbread have put the playback heads on a continuous mixer, which allows you to pull off syncopated & rhythmic effects that the original could only dream of.

As with the only pedals in their Delay & Reverb series, Catalinbread have meticulously honoured the original and thoughtfully expanded upon it. If you’re a fan of the Oil Can tone or simply want a pedal that offers a fresh & exciting flavour of delay, the Adienko is a great choice.

Every brand new Catalinbread pedal comes with a 3-year warranty, which covers defects in materials and/or workmanship. Contact help@catalinbread.com for more info.
