Catalinbread Topanga Reverb Pedal Overview
The Catalinbread Topanga is based on the sought-after Fender 6G15 outboard spring reverb unit, as used by legendary players such as G.E. Smith. Now you can experience this tone for yourself without having to deal with the cost, maintenance and size of a vintage spring tank!
Vintage Sound - Small Footprint
The sound of the Fender 6G15 spring reverb is something special, with a compelling dynamic response that reflects the way you play. The complex decays and subtle nuances of the 6G15 have been faithfully and accurately emulated in the Topanga (which is part of the Catalinbread’s Delay & Reverb series).
Distinctive Spring Tone
Unlike built-in spring tanks, the 6G15 and Topanga are designed to hit the front end of an amp. The result is a beautifully characterful tone, with a crunch and intensity that internal spring 'verbs can’t achieve.
Realistic Response
The feel and reaction of the spring reverb to your playing is just a crucial as the sound. Knowing this, Catalinbread have painstakingly emulated the distinctive drip, splash and clang of the original’s components to provide a truly realistic experience.
Valve-style Booster
A huge part of what gave the 6G15 its magic is that it’s essentially a valve preamp, as well as a lush spring reverb, which added an appealing colour going into the amp. This aspect has been recreated in the Catalinbread Topanga with the discrete preamp, which is controlled via the Vol knob.
The Topanga can be treated as two pedals-in-one, as you can use the preamp as a fantastic tone-enhancer or clean boost without the reverb. It’s perfect for when you need to drive the front end of your amp even further for those dripping surf-rock leads. For additional headroom and volume, you can run the Topanga at a higher voltage (up to 18V DC).
The Catalinbread Topanga is a great solution if you need an authentic-sounding spring reverb in your rig without having to lug around a bulky and expensive unit. From surf splashes to trashy lo-fi washes to subtle spaces, the Topanga can cover it all with ease.
