Boss AC-3 Acoustic Simulator Pedal Overview

The Boss AC-2 was originally released in 1997 and was one of the first successful acoustic guitar simulator pedals on the market.

The revised Boss AC-3 Acoustic Simulator builds on the success of the original and adds some new features. Perfect for laying down acoustic guitar overdubs and the odd acoustic part in a live show, the AC-3 uses COSM (Composite Object Sound Modelling) technology to turn your electric guitar signal into a variety of authentic, shimmering acoustic guitar tones. The AC-3 has 4 main modes to chose from 'Standard', 'Jumbo', 'Enhanced' and 'Piezo-equipped'. Each of these modes can be adjusted and sculpted into your desired acoustic tone quickly and easily using the 'Top' and 'Body' controls and then the in-built reverb can be added to smooth out the effect.

The AC-3 is also equipped with a line out to run a second feed straight into the desk or PA.

GAK's Boss AC-3 FAQ's

Q1: Does the AC-3 negate the need for an acoustic guitar?
A: The AC-3 is a tool designed for the guitarist who does not have the ability to take 2 guitars to a gig or for studio sessions where acoustic is an after thought and there is not one to hand. Though the modelling is fantastically realistic, it cannot recreate all aspects of an acoustic guitar.

Q2: How do I use the 'Line Out' function?
A: The Line Out output can be used with a standard 1/4" jack and can be sent directly to the PA or a mixing desk. This will be a direct feed from the pedal, so your amplifier settings will not be in this signal.

Q3: How long is the battery life?
A: The AC-3 uses a 9V PP-3 type battery. Using an Alkaline battery (6LR61) will give up to 6 hours of use. The AC-3 can also be powered by an optional AC adaptor such as the Boss PSA.

Easy to use and does an above average job of simulating an acoustic guitar
