Boss Waza Craft SD-1W Super Overdrive Pedal Overview
The Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive has been a mainstay in the Boss stomp-box lineup since it's release in 1981. Since then the SD-1 has remained largely unchanged and is one of the most popular overdrive pedals of all time! Loved by guitarists the world over, the SD-1 is known for it's ability to respond naturally to the dynamics of different picking techniques, resulting in an overdrive that retains the amplifiers natural tonal characteristics. Because of this, the SD-1 is a popular choice for use as a boost pedal for valve amplifiers.
The new Boss Waza Craft SD-1W faithfully captures the spirit of the original SD-1 and adds an exciting feature, the new 'Custom Mode' switch which opens up a new tonal range and an additional gain stage. Using all-analog discrete circuitry this is a fantastic hot-rodded version of one of a true classic.
The SD-1W is designed by the Boss Waza Craft Custom Shop. In Japan, the word 'Waza' means 'art and technique' and this is truly reflected in this range of stomp-box's. Each Waza Craft product is constructed using analog components, refined circuitry and incredible attention to detail in all aspects of the design. Each stomp-box is given the final sound approval by Boss Japan.

GAK's Boss SD-1W FAQ's
Q1: What is the difference between the SD-1 and the OD-3?
A: The SD-1 was originally released as an alternative the what was then the OD-1. The OD-3 is the latest incarnation of this stompbox. The OD series was built with simplicity in mind. Therefore the SD-1 will give you more complex tones and also allow the natural tone of your amplifier to shine through and also respond better to picking dynamics.
Q2: How can I use the SD-1 as boost pedal?
A: The SD-1W can be used as a boost pedal. It is not the cleanest boost, however it does take some of the low end out of the amplifier tone and tightening it up. If you keep the gain low on the pedal and turn the master volume up to max you should see a boost in the volume. This works best with valve amplifiers as opposed to solid state and digital.
Q3: How long is the battery life?
A:The SD-1W uses a 9V PP-3 type battery. Using an Alkaline battery (6LR61) will give around 42 hours of use. The SD-1W can also be powered by an optional AC adapter such as the Boss PSA.
