I have been playing both guitar and bass for many years now and during my journey I have tried pretty much every string manufacturer out there. We all like value for money but sometimes paying that little bit more buys you strings that last longer and stay both in tune and remain brighter for two to three times longer. I would also like to mention the fact that, if like me you like to bend and hit strings fairly hard Ernie Ball strings take far more of a pounding than most other brands.
