Walrus Audio Deep Six V3 Compressor Pedal Overview

The Walrus Audio Deep Six V3 Compressor Pedal is a true bypass studio-grade compressor in a compact stompbox, modelled after the Universal Audio 1176 with the simplicity of Ross and Dynacomp. It has Level, Sustain, Attack, and Blend controls, the Deep Six Compressor is an incredibly versatile pedal at an affordable price.

The Deep Six V3 comes standard with a polarity correction circuit so polarity won’t be an issue, and the internal voltage is doubled to 18v to give you max headroom while keeping the typical current draw of 8.9mA.

Version 3 of the Deep Six pedal has some new features, including a Tone knob (bass cut) that lets you shape the low end of your signal and a Soft switch/relay bypassing for a smoother operation. The input and output jacks have been moved to the top for better accessibility, and the art on the casing has been updated which pays homage to the original.

The Deep Six V3 has Blend and Attack controls which let you use the pedal with active pickups or humbuckers. Blend lets you use high output instruments while also letting you dial out distortion.

The Level control sets the Deep Six to unity volume, and when it’s maxed out, it delivers enough output to drive the amplifier and other pedals for extra sustain. The Tone control knob works as a bass cut which shapes the low end, so you can turn it up to cut more bass, or turn it down to let more bass through.

With the Sustain control, you can run it at a lower setting so the compressor works as a tone shaper to make your playing sound more even, and you can turn the Sustain up to make your leads sparkle. The Blend control mixes in the compressed signal with the dry signal. For high output signals such as humbuckers, the Blend control lets you dial in more of the dry signal and dial out the distortion. The Attack control lets you adjust how fast the compressor reacts to your notes. Setting it higher means you’ll get punchier leads, and turning it down delivers a smoother rhythm tone.

The Walrus Audio Deep Six V3 uses a 9v power supply (not included).
