Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt Dale Wilson '61 Stratocaster Heavy Relic, Dark Lake Placid Blue Overview
Handbuilt by revered Master Builder Dale Wilson, this Fender Custom Shop '61 Stratocaster is a prime example of why the Custom Shop luthiers are amongst the best in the world. This guitar was crafted by Dale Wilson from start to finish, using personally selected tonewoods and components to create the finest instrument possible.
This 1961 Strat’s foundation of a solid 2-piece Alder body (carved to a classic '60 Strat shape), a beautiful Plain Grain Maple neck (sculpted to a comfortable '60-style Oval “C” profile) and buttery-smooth AAA Rosewood fretboard result in a playing experience that calls back to Fender’s “Golden Era”. The 9.5" radius fretboard is topped with perfectly dressed Narrow Tall 6105 frets, which offer a slightly more modern feel compared to Fender’s Vintage fretwire.
A standout feature of this '61 Strat’s feature-set is its trio of Custom Shop '60s Strat pickups, which were handwound by Fender’s Queen of Pickups Josefina Campos. Compared to machine wound pickups, these Josefina-wound examples will have a unique identity thanks to subtle variations between each pickup.
The Heavy Relic treatment imparts the thoroughly worn-in charm that you’d tend to find on a heavily used vintage Fender that’s withstood countless gigs over the years. The back of the neck has no finish and an inviting satin feel - as if it had been totally worn away by years of rigorous playing.
