Expertly finished shells in 6ply 100% Birch incorporate Yamaha's Air Seal System to ensure evenly distributed air pressure. Combined with re-designed hi-tension lugs lining the 30-degree bearing edges that push up the lower frequencies. The result is a focused, punchy sound with plenty of attack and short decay, but also plenty of melody. These drums respond very well to tuning allowing you to make one drum sound many different ways.

For three years, legendary drummer Steve Gadd regularly visited Yamaha's research and development team in Japan to compare different ply's and test various shell prototypes until the perfect desired sound was accomplished, in Steve's own words "We found a 6ply shell had more bottom, it seemed to open the drums up", and thus the transition to 6ply was made.

In terms of heads, the toms are wrapped in Remo USA Coated Ambassador skins up top, with clear Ambassadors down below, the bass drum is dressed in a Remo USA Coated Powerstroke 3 on the batter with a smart looking Yamaha Stage Head covering the front.

The RB Recording Custom retains its warmth when played quietly yet delivers a solid punch when played at a higher velocity, making these shells versatile enough to suit any style of drumming, from Jazz through to Metal and beyond.

The included YES III Tom Mount offers you the best natural sustain and volume for the shells, thanks to a mounting system that reduces dampening significantly.
