Steinberg UR-RT4 Audio Interface with Neve Transformers Overview
Steinberg UR-RT2 USB 2.0 Audio Interface overview from GAK
Steinberg introduces the UR-RT USB 2.0 Audio Interface range for 2018! The brand-new UR-RT2 and UR-RT4 audio interfaces are recording powerhouses, featuring switchable input transformers designed by recording industry legend Rupert Neve, producing an unparalleled musical tone and supremely rich harmonics, from a tough and portable interface ready for the studio straight out the box.
The UR-RT4 is a 24-bit/192 kHz USB 2.0 audio interface and a larger version of the UR-RT2. Packing six inputs and four output with Rupert Neve transformers and high-quality D-PRE preamps, flawless connectivity to a computer, laptop and iPad appliances, plus an SSP2 DSP chip that ensures zero-latency FX for monitoring.
All of the UR-RT4's analogue XLR/TRS combo inputs feature Class-A D-PRE mic preamps with switchable +48 V phantom power, accommodating even the most power demanding condenser mics. When testing with the Audio Technica AT2020, we achieved superb signal quality using only minimal gain and experienced no electrical interference or distortion. The Yamaha-designed D-PRE's provide a great level of high-end and low-end detail to each recording, boasting an "immaculate dynamic response and a rich, rounded low-end", whether you are laying down vocals, guitar, bass or anything in between, the UR-RT4 captures every minute sonic detail and dynamic shift in your recording.
Furthermore, Inputs 1 and 2 feature switchable Hi-Z for electric guitar and additional inputs including the UR-RT4's 2 TRS line inputs with rear facing MIDI in/out and two additional headphone busses sporting independent output/level control.
The UR-RT4 provides latency-free DSP monitoring crucial for track laying and jamming over additional tracks, from source to speaker or headphone, we experienced true-zero latency playback and found recording a breeze. Zero-latency DSP also helped when testing a dual-condenser interview scenario, the UR-RT's dual headphone inputs make it a perfect tool for recording interviews and podcasts!
The UR-RT range pairs power with strength thanks to a robust full-metal housing and solid smooth action knobs and buttons, the units feel solid and can without a doubt survive life both in the studio and on the road. Both the RT2 and RT4 models are surprisingly low-weight and thus present no challenge to carry around in your backpack making them highly portable interfaces.
Designed to work flawlessly with Cubase and most other DAW's, included with every purchase is Steinberg's industry-leading Cubase AI software for Mac and PC, a stripped-back edition of the Cubase workstation that provides a user-friendly recording system that's quick and easy. Additionally, iPad users can rejoice in the inclusion of Cubasis LE for direct recording to iPad.
To keep you busy straight out the box, Steinberg's included 'Basic FX Suite' provides various VST plug-ins developed by none other than Yamaha. Consisting of three software components, Cubasis LE features Sweet Spot Morphing Channel Strip, REV-X Reverb and Guitar Amp Classics. Three different plug-ins offering compression & EQ, digital reverb and superb guitar amp simulations.
