Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1 DJ Controller Overview
Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1 DJ Controller
The perfect way to start your journey as a Scratch DJ.
The DDJ-REV1 is Pioneer DJ’s introductory option to their latest DJ Controller series, REV.
REV DJ controllers are a series made for the DJ that wants the experience of using a turntable/mixer setup, with all the benefits of a controller. The layout is perfect for performing scratching techniques, familiarising yourself with a battle style configuration and even includes specialised features for open-format DJs.
Specifically designed as a 2-channel, 4 deck DJ controller for Serato DJ Lite, beginner DJs & hobbyists DJs are given the perfect platform to start DJing.
Lightweight and easily transportable, the DDJ-REV1 is perfect for mobile DJs. Protect the controller on the move with the Pioneer DJ DJC-REV1 Controller Bag.
A Scratch DJ Layout, Ready For Battle
The REV1 perfectly emulates using a professional DJM-S mixer + PLX turntable battle setup, as the tempo sliders have been turned horizontally and placed at the top of the deck sections.
The Performance Pads (x8 pads per deck) have been placed within the mixer section along with Lever FX paddles, meaning they are in the same place as DJM-S series mixers. By having a DJM-S layout, you can energetically change sound during performances and mimic a Vinyl DJ setup.
Bigger Jogwheels For Scratching
The DDJ-REV1 may sit on the more affordable scale of Pioneer DJ Controllers, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s not full of premium features. Boasting the same sized jogs as the DDJ-SR2 and larger than the DDJ-400, you’ll find plenty of room to try out mixing techniques on its spacious layout.
Put simply, scratching feels noticeably better than the previous jogs found on DJ controllers at this level. If you’re thinking about getting into battle mixing and scratching, there is no better place to start than the REV1.
Whatsmore is the fact that it is a DJ Controller means you can utilise the 4 deck capability of Serato DJ to expand your mixing options. With Deck 3/4 Control, you can play sounds from all 4 decks within the software.
Dynamically Add Texture To Mixes With Lever FX
One of the best ways to stand out from other DJs is the way you use effects. As well as the 3-band EQ and trim filter pots, the REV1 has plenty of features to mix creatively.
With the inclusion of Levers, the DDJ-REV1 allows DJs to use more creative combinations of Serato Effects at the touch of a button.
Found in the mixer section, the Lever FX paddles allow you to apply effects from Serato DJ Lite in short bursts by holding down the lever or pushing it up to leave the effect on, freeing your hands to scratch or browse tracks.
Never Lose Your Place When Scratching With Tracking Scratch
When scratching, one of the most difficult things to master is returning to the right part of the track after you have closed the fader. With Tracking Scratch you’ll never need to worry about winding the jog back to the start point of your scratch, as once you set a Cue Point and the jog will automatically snap back the moment you let go of the jog wheel.
To help you even further, the DDJ-REV1 has 6x Scratch Crossfader Cut patterns, which mean you do not have to use two hands to perform scratch techniques. Simply press the relevant Performance Pad and move the jog wheel and you’ll be scratching like a pro.
You can also use the Performance Pads to instantly trigger your favourite samples or tracks that you’ve loaded to the Scratch Bank in Serato DJ Lite. This feature has previously only been available to Serato DJ Pro users, making this a welcome upgrade.
Widen Your Audience With Real-Time Streaming
Expand the number of people watching your set by live-streaming your DJ sets. Unlike most DJ Controllers, the DDJ-REV1 mixes the audio of the mic input with the master output, meaning you can sing, rap, make announcements and hype the crowd without an additional soundcard, mixer or recording software (microphone sold separately).
The built-in audio interface streams the audio directly to your laptop, meaning it can be heard directly on your stream.
Serato DJ Lite Integration And Compatibility With Serato DJ Pro
As the DDJ-REV1 is a laptop DJ controller, it needs to be used with the software. Serato DJ Lite and a USB cable are included free, making it ready to use straight out the box.
Enjoy tactile control of various features and effects in the software by manipulating the buttons, knobs, faders, and jog wheels on the controller.
The REV1 even supports Serato DJ Pro, meaning that as you grow as a DJ, you can still upgrade your setup to a more advanced rig. Take your performances to the next level with a free trial of Serato DJ Pro (paid permanent upgrade available separately).
For users wanting 7-inch motorised jogs, on-jog displays, a MAGVEL Pro fader and premium build quality upgrade to the DDJ-REV7.
