Pioneer DJ DDJ-XP2 Digital DJ Controller Overview

The DDJ-XP2 is the perfect way to add more creative control to your live performances. If you are a production DJ, a remix DJ or someone that likes to get creative, the DDJ-XP2 makes DJing far more musical.

You can finger drum, trigger samples and launch numerous pad modes on the fly, making your mixes stand out from the crowd.

The DDJ-XP2 is a bus-powered digital controller, used to trigger numerous settings from your chosen DJ Software. It doesn’t matter whether you use Serato DJ or rekordbox, as Pioneer DJ has made the XP2 open to both of these popular software options.

In a nutshell, the Pioneer DJ DDJ-XP2 expands your DJ setup for Laptop DJs that need more controls of their Pad Modes. The XP2 includes 32 robust, multi-coloured, touch-sensitive pads (16 per deck), made of non-slip rubber.

On your typical DJ Controller, you’ll usually find a maximum of 8 pads per deck and a shift/page select button to access further modes. With the DDJ-XP2, button presses are reduced, as 16 pads (per deck) are on the front panel. Each deck also has 8 modes, meaning you have 128 assignments available - per deck!

With such a large amount of control available, Laptop DJs will love the ability to assign such an array of pad modes, keeping your eyes away from the laptop.

Keep Your 16 Pad Modes On A Single Page

Available Pad Modes:

rekordbox:

  • PAD MODE 1: Hot Cue
  • PAD MODE 2: Pad FX1
  • PAD MODE 3: Beat Jump
  • PAD MODE 4: Sampler
  • PAD MODE 5: Keyboard
  • PAD MODE 6: Pad FX2
  • PAD MODE 7: Beat Loop
  • PAD MODE 8: Key Shift

Pad Editor adds Slicer, Sequence Call, Act. Sensor, Memory Cue and Transport Mode (launched alongside the launch of the XP2).

Serato DJ:

  • PAD MODE 1: Hot Cue mode and Sampler mode
  • PAD MODE 2: Auto Loop mode
  • PAD MODE 3: Slicer mode and Sampler mode
  • PAD MODE 4: Saved Loop mode and Manual Loop mode
  • PAD MODE 5: Pitch Play mode
  • PAD MODE 6: Roll mode
  • PAD MODE 7: Slicer Loop mode and Sampler mode
  • PAD MODE 8: Transport mode and Beatgrid Edit mode

For the first time ever, use 16 pads to control a single mode in Serato DJ Pro. Until now, Serato DJ Pro has only supported up to eight pads in any mode.

Open Up Your Performance Capabilities on CDJs or Turntables

The DDJ-XP2 isn’t just for controller-based DJs, as it unlocks doors for both CDJ users and Turntablists too.

CDJs typically do not have any performance pads and turntables have very limited performance controls. When using the DDJ-XP2 with a pair of CDJs, or time coded-vinyl in DVS mode, you can add the additional performance capabilities of a DJ Controller to your setup.

Add Character To Your Sets With Slide FX

To add further creative flair to your DJ set, you can use the DDJ-XP2’s Effects section. This makes for smoother transitions between tracks, as well as more tension in builds before a drop.

Each deck has three Slide FX buttons, which activate individual effects with a single button press. Simply assign your desired effect to one of the Slide FX buttons, and once engaged, you can dynamically control your chosen pad effect by moving your finger up and down the Slide FX strips. Serato DJ Pro users can add a combination of effects to each Slide FX button.

Take Control Of Your DJ Application

If you are using time-coded vinyl in a turntable setup, you’re missing out on some useful controls that are available to both controller and CDJ based DJs.

You can use the DDJ-XP2’s Browser Knob to search your music collection, as well as set up loops and trigger quantised (or unquantised) sequences with the sampler.

By adding a DDJ-XP2 to your turntable setup, you’re using the benefits of all DJ applications. With XP2 you can use your preferred piece of equipment for each individual part of a DJ’s performance. By adding a DDJ-XP2 to your setup you can scratch with the feel of a turntable, browse/cue tracks as if you were using a CDJ and control DJ software as though you had a DJ controller.

A Controller for Everything

With the DDJ-XP2 you can push your performances beyond the world of music. Within rekordbox DJ, not only can the buttons control performance modes, but you can also control lighting.

With the addition of an RB-DMX1 (sold separately), you can use the pads of the XP2 to control Mood, Colour and Strobe. This means that any track you have loaded into rekordbox will be analysed so that build-ups, stabs and hundreds of other characteristics of a song will react with a lighting rig.

For club DJs, you can blow the crowd away with incredible lighting shows, all synced with your rekordbox library. Even minuscule changes in the pitch of the hi-hats, filter sweeps, dynamic changes and section changes will trigger a response from the lighting rig you have synced with.
