For as long as there have been amplifiers, guitarists, tone-heads and engineers have been combining amps blending tones and creating whole new sonic landscapes in the pursuit of the perfect tone. Now, thanks to the brain trust at MXR, you can do the same - straight from your pedalboard.
Having got their hands on a pair of heavily modified, true classic amps, the MXR team pulled them apart to analyse them extensively. One had been modified for saturated and scooped high-gain tones, while the second had been modded for crunch with a punchy mid-range. pLayed together, the two complimented each other perfectly, delivering harmonically complex soundscapes of grit, grind and full-on overdrive. So they put it in a pedal.
The FOD Drive is the result of their efforts. Painstakingly recreating each amplifier in pedal circuit form, the MXR engineers fit them into a single housing as separate channels—High Gain and Crunch Gain. Each channel has its own Gain and Volume controls so that you can dial in just the right sonic signature for each side. The Blend control then allows you to set the mix ratio of the two signals—just like having two separate amps running into a mixing box. The Tone knob sets the EQ for the overall output signal, and the Scoop switch allows you to choose between flat, scooped, or boosted midrange voices.
