JHS Pedals Unicorn V2 Uni-Vibe Pedal Overview
The Unicorn V2 is an analogue signal path Uni-Vibe Photocell Modulator with Tap Tempo, delivering a wide range of interesting tones, from thick, lush swirling and pulsing washes to jangly modulation, classic vibe effects and dizzying rotary sounds. The Unicorn V2 works well on clean or distorted tones, and being half the size of the original Unicorn, will make a worthy addition to your pedalboard.
The Unicorn V2 emulates the sound of rotary speakers that were typically used by organ players and were then adopted by guitarists to create unique sweeping, phasing sounds.
It has 4 straight-forward control knobs which are very sensitive - Volume simply controls the output volume, Speed controls the rate/speed of the modulation, and overrides the tap tempo speed when rotated, Depth controls how powerful the effect is, and Ratio controls the ratio of the tapped speed and lets you choose half note, quarter note, dotted eighth and triplet notes. There’s also a dry/wet toggle switch in the middle that lets you switch between the ‘dry’ Uni-Vibe mode and a ‘wet’ softer vibrato mode
There is also a handy TAP/EXP jack input so you can plug in an external tap tempo/expression footswitch, making the tap tempo control a little easier to use, or letting you control the rate of the effect in real time.
