Gibson Acoustic Custom Shop Elvis SJ-200 Overview

This elegant SJ-200 model is a faithful tribute to one of the King’s go-to stage acoustic guitars.

A Tribute To The King

Elvis Presley, also known as the King Of Rock And Roll, is a true icon and one of the most influential artists of all time. His extraordinary voice and provocative stage moves that drew upon his deep reverence of Black performers helped to pave the way for Rock ‘n’ Roll music. By publicly citing his admiration of Black artists and wearing his influences on his sleeve, Elvis acted as an integrator and assisted in opening the door for Black music. The King’s effect on popular music is immense, having inspired legendary musicians such as The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Elton John.

Bold Tone

When you picture Elvis Presley with a guitar, it’s probably going to be a Gibson J-200. Elvis frequently favoured the Jumbo-sized instrument throughout his career and made excellent use of its bold, commanding tone for his rhythmic style. This Gibson Acoustic Custom Shop SJ-200 is a stunning recreation of an acoustic guitar that the King used for live performances in the '70s.

Premium Appointments

The original model was gifted to the King in the mid-1960s whilst he was recording in Nashville, Tennessee at RCA Studio B. The guitar would be used for numerous live shows until 1976 when Elvis generously bestowed it upon his close friend and chief personal aide Marty Lacker. Custom visual appointments such as the beautiful Ebony finish, Rosewood moustache saddle, luxurious gold-plated hardware and mother-of-pearl graduated crown inlays have been recreated on this Gibson Acoustic Custom Shop rendition.

Period-Correct Construction

As with the original J-200, the Gibson Elvis SJ-200’s neck, back and sides are crafted from Maple. The combination of Maple with a solid Sitka Spruce imparts a distinctive brightness, clarity and resonance that particularly excels in a band mix. If you want your acoustic guitar to cut through, the Gibson Elvis SJ-200 is a great choice. The traditional hand scalloped X-bracing plays a huge role in the Elvis SJ-200’s powerful, punchy tonal character. The 2-piece Maple with Walnut stringer neck is carved to a robust-feeling Round neck profile and partnered with a glass-like Indian Rosewood fretboard. Topping the 12" radius fingerboard are 20 Standard-size frets.

Ready For Live

The Gibson Acoustic Custom Shop have primed the Elvis SJ-200 for live use by outfitting it with premium hardware and onboard electronics. Thanks to the Grover Keystone tuning machines, bone nut and Tusq bridge pins, you can count on the Gibson Elvis SJ-200 to deliver exceptional tone on stage or in the studio. The LR Baggs VTC under-saddle pickup precisely conveys all the nuance and detail of the Elvis SJ-200’s natural voice when you plug it into a PA system or amplifier. The Volume and Tone controls are discretely mounted within the soundhole to retain the guitar’s vintage aesthetic.

As well as the Gibson Acoustic Custom Shop Elvis SJ-200 guitar itself, you also receive a rugged hardshell case to keep it safe between gigs and sessions.

The Gibson Acoustic Custom Shop Elvis Dove is also available if you prefer dreadnought-sized guitars.

If you’re looking for a superb Jumbo acoustic guitar with serious rock ‘n’ roll heritage, a classy look and a big, present tone that’ll inspire you to play - the Gibson Elvis SJ-200 is well worth your attention.
