EMG SA Single Coil Pickup, Black Overview
For Stratocaster, any positionEMG's most popular pickup for Stratocaster type guitars was originally developed in 1974 but was redesigned along with all the other models in 1979. It was voiced with the help of guitar repairman / luthier John Carruthers and his professional clientele. The first professional who spread the gospel about the EMG-SA was Peter Frampton who visited EMG in 1979. By 1985, Peter had turned Steve Lukather on to the pickup along with a host of others. They can't recall when David Gilmour got his first SA System, but Rob remembers delivering a system in L.A. for David and meeting Phil Taylor (David's main man) for the first time. Over the years we've sent David all of the newer models, but he's maintained his support of the SA System, thus the DG20.
The EMG-SA combines the attributes of the early Strat sound but with an added midrange response and higher output. It's "bell-like" ringing harmonics and increased sustain give the SA greater versatility than normally found in single-coil pickups. A single Alnico bar magnet delivers classic overdrive with a smooth midrange distortion, while still retaining the familiar high-end of a single-coil pickup. The internal preamp rejects every bit of hum and buzz for noiseless operation. The EMG-SA is available individually or as a preassembled set with volume and tone controls, five-position switch which is all ready to mount onto your pickguard. Only three connections are necessary to complete the assembly. Or, you can choose one of the ready to mount Pro-Series Custom systems.
