Electro-Harmonix Canyon Delay Looper Pedal Overview
The Electro Harmonix Canyon Delay Looper Pedal packs a lot of punch into a small, compact pedal, where you’d normally need to connect multiple expensive effects units to achieve all the different sounds contained in the compact Canyon. There’s an 11 position rotary effect knob, with a 62-second looper and 10 delay effects, delivering shimmering sounds, ethereal modulated washes, and cascading octave delay. An incredibly versatile, compact pedal at an affordable price, great for experimenting with distinct delay sounds and secondary effects, and for people without much room left on their pedalboard, but need something small and powerful.
There are 4 control knobs: ‘FX Level’ which controls the output volume of the delay effect, ‘Delay’ which controls the delay time, from 5 milliseconds up to 3 seconds, ‘Feedback Control’ which controls the number of repeats in a delay signal, and ‘Mode’ which features 10 different varieties of effects and the looper:
Echo - digital delay effect where the repeats gradually decrease in volume
Modulated Delay - This is similar to the Echo, but the repeats add warmth and texture
Multi-Tap Delay - This is where each repeat is the same volume of its predecessor
Reverse - Plays back the echos in reverse, and the pedal adjusts the reverse echo effect while playing to best suit your delay time setting.
Deluxe Memory Man - this emulates the analogue delay pedal of the same name, providing a lush analogue warmth.
Tape - Makes your echoes degrade and distort as they repeat, it’s designed to emulate analogue tape echo units that were popular in the ’70s.
Verb - This can be used as a pure reverb with the feedback all the way down, and provides nice ambient sounds.
Octave Delay - This is where each repeat is progressively pitch-shifted by an octave
Shimmer - This mode replicates four separate EHX pedals (compressor, pitch shifter, and two delay/modulator pedals), providing a rich wash of harmonies.
Sample/Hold - This is quite a simple effect, it repeats each guitar pluck, and will keep repeating them until you pluck again.
Looper - the 62-second looper means you can record yourself playing, with overdubs and practice playing on top, so this function is great for songwriting, practice, and gigs. Use the footswitch to start, stop, overdub and erase your loops.
There’s also a Tap/Divide switch which controls the Tap Divide setting. When the delay time is set with tap tempo, this button controls the division of the tapped tempo. Press the switch to cycle through the Tap Divide options, which are indicated by the LED colour.
