Darkglass Alpha-Omega Ultra Dual Distortion Pedal Overview

A versatile bass preamp with dual distortion circuits, built-in cab simulation and an IR loader.

Overview by GAK

The Darkglass Alpha·Omega Ultra is a versatile bass preamp designed with two distinct flavours of distortion (Alpha and Omega). Select between two unique distortion circuits: Alpha is punchy, tight with a lot of definition, Omega is simply brutal and raw. You can even explore even wider versatility by using the mix function to blend each of the circuits together simultaneously.

Darkglass has also armed the Alpha-Omega Ultra with an extremely dynamic six-band graphic EQ, giving you immense control of your tone. Cut or boost across six different frequency bands to tailor your tone to your own preference.

  • Bass - Low shelf ±12dB @ 80 Hz
  • Mid bands - ±10dB @ 250 Hz, 500 Hz, 1.5 kHz, 3 kHz
  • Treble - High shelf ±12dB @ 5 kHz

With such a diverse pedal, having complete control of all of the onboard capabilities is a must. Plus, this is for the bass player that makes no compromise with their tone. Featuring two buttons to control even more tonal character, gigging bass players can manipulate their sound on the fly.

  • Growl - Shelving Bass Boost for a fatter tone and increased low-end saturation.

  • Bite - Boosts High Mids (2.8kHz) for additional presence and definition.

Loaded with a direct balanced XLR output and optional cabinet simulation, pro-level bass players can use the built-in preamp as an alternative to a bass amp, or place the pedal in front of their amp as a conventional bass distortion, making an incredibly complete tool for the modern bass player.

Users can connect the pedal to a computer via USB, which unlocks the editing capabilities even more. You can use the Darkglass Suite, free editing software for DG pedals, to control various settings and even load impulse response cabinet simulations.

The frequency response from a loaded speaker cabinet is a huge part of the tone of an amp. By capturing the response of your favourite amp and loading it in as a custom IR, you can achieve the signate big, natural tones of the raw pre-amp.

Impulse Response (IR) cabinet emulation has become extremely popular among guitarists, bass players and producers in recent times, enabling them to replicate the feel of their physical amplifier rig without any of the drawbacks: having to use an acoustically treated room (or very unhappy neighbours due to the volume), carrying bulky cabinets and/or setting up expensive microphones.

Load in your own custom IRs or even use impulses made by selected Darkglass artists.

The Alpha-Omega Ultra isn’t just for gigging bass players. When practising at home at bedroom volume, you can use the included Headphone output to save disturbing the neighbours!
