High-performance Synthesizer

The Yamaha MODX8+ synthesizer is an affordable, high-performance instrument that’s descended from the flagship Montage series. The MODX8+ inherits the powerful technology from the Montage range, giving professional players the deep sound design capabilities of its sibling in a portable, budget-friendly package. Boasting two phenomenal sound engines, an upgraded voice count and VCM-based effects, the MODX8+ is adept at creating dynamic, multi-layered sounds. Gigging keyboardists and performers will adore how easy it is to set up complex patches with various keyboard zones and Seamless Sound Switching, which enables you to rapidly and smoothly transition between your sounds.

Montage Power

The MODX8+ is equipped with the same deep and immersive sound engines as the Montage series. The sample-based AWM2 (short for Advanced Wave Memory 2) engine offers 128 voice polyphony and a vast range of sonic possibilities. Rather than static single-cycle waves, the AWM2 engine’s waveforms are complex multi-sampled mini-presets. From vintage synths like the Yamaha CS-80 to sought-after acoustic instruments like a Bosendofer grand, the AWM2 presents a tonne of sound design possibilities that can be freely shaped in an intuitive and familiar subtractive synthesis style.

Realistic Graded Keybed

Whilst the MODX6+ and MODX7+ feature fast and light semi-weighted keyboard actions, the Yamaha MODX8+ is outfitted with an 88-key GHS (Graded Hammer Standard) keybed. This keybed features a graded, weighted touch that varies depending on which register you play in for a more realistic feel.

Deep FM Synthesis

The FM-X synthesis engine harkens back to Yamaha’s revolutionary DX series. Like the legendary DX7, the FM-X uses FM synthesis to create lush and harmonically-complex timbres. The FM-X engine boasts eight operators (two more than the original DX-7) and eighty-eight algorithms. A host of subtractive analogue-style filters (including low-pass, band-pass and notch) can be used to tame the harshest and most metallic FM tones you can create. In addition to the traditional sine waves, the FM-X engine also allows you to use other waveshapes to take you well beyond what the classic DX synths were capable of.

Incredible Performance Features

Smart Morph is a powerful and interactive performance tool that allows you to smoothly morph between FM-X sounds. A universe of otherwordly sonic textures can be accessed with the turn of a knob. Motion Sequencing is another inspiring sound design feature that can be easily manipulated in real-time via the tactile 7" touchscreen. Motion Sequences are tempo-locked control sequences that can be used to rhythmically alter virtually any synth parameter for truly evolving and captivating patches that other synths could only dream of.

Another MODX+ superpower is the glowing Super Knob. With one tactile control, you can adjust multiple parameters at once. Each parameter can be adjusted with its own range and polarity. The Super Knob can be controlled using the knob itself, an external expression pedal or automated using the Motion Sequencer.

Upgraded

The MODX8+ has had its RAM storage upgraded from its predecessor - 1GB to 1.7GB - to match the Montage. This allows you to keep more of your favourite imported sounds stored at any one time. The pitch and mod wheels have also been enhanced for a more tactile and responsive feel that synth soloists will appreciate. Combine this with a new sleek finish and lightweight form factor that makes transportation a breeze and you have a seriously impressive performance synthesizer.
