A striking new Signature PT from Schecter, combining MGK’s playful aesthetic and in-your-face attitude in a single-pickup monster of a guitar.
Overview By GAK
When building a guitar for an artist as controversial as Machine Gun Kelly, it’s far to say it needs to be unique and able to stand out from the crowd.
It’s fair to say that Machine Gun Kelly is quickly becoming one of the most famous celebrities in the world right now. He’s a divisive character, but there’s no denying that he’s got great taste in guitars.
His hot rod-inspired Schecter is another strong example of the “Pink Guitars Are Cool” movement, and it’s hard to argue. The beautifully vibrant “Tickets to My Downfall” pink finish partners perfectly with the contrasting black hardware and binding. There’s also 5 classy black pinstripes that feature in the spaces of each string, tastefully filling the gap that would usually be occupied by a neck pickup.
Don’t let the lack of a neck pickup make you think the Schecter Machine Gun Kelly isn’t versatile. Remember, MGK’s music is a compositional blending of contemporary and alternative hip hop with rock, meaning his guitar needs to cater for a wide array of tones.
His music needs a guitar that provides a huge amount of weight, clarity and aggression, which is provided in abundance thanks to a powerful American-wired humbucking pickup. The Schecter USA Pasadena Pickup is a high-output humbucker with a potent sound, perfectly designed for high-octane tones.
The tone is then supported further with the use of an Alder Body and Maple Neck.
Alder is a timeless tonewood choice, synonymous with bolt-on electric guitars. It provides a balanced tonal foundation, with tight lows, bold mids and singing highs.
The PT’s Maple Neck gives a bright and snappy note response, plus it even comes reinforced with carbon fibre rods for extra stability! The Ebony Fingerboard features an exquisite natural grain; adding more top-end to the tonal mix. Plus, the dark, silky aesthetic further enhances the eye-catching design of the guitar, especially with the double “XX” inlay at the 12th fret.
The MGK guitar isn’t just made to be nice to look at, as there are numerous features that make it extremely comfortable to play. The neck’s contoured heel gives players greater access to the upper frets and the large 24 X-Jumbo frets provide a controlled platform to play wide vibrato and pitch-perfect string bends. Plus, the locking tuners mean you can gig with the confidence that it won’t drift out of tune.
The Machine Gun Kelly PT is the ideal gigging companion, as the Luminlay “Glow-in-the-Dark” Side Markers mean you always know where you’re at on dark stages and the inclusion of a Kill Switch means you can eradicate feedback between songs in your set and create tremolo-style effects with ease.
