Schecter C-7 SLS Elite, Antique Fade Burst Overview
Schecter bring us a stunning new hardtail 7 string for 2018 in the form of the C-7 SLS Elite. It’s always good to have at least one non-tremolo guitar in your arsenal and this is a great looking option with a powerful, cutting edge sound.
So, let us begin with the woods and construction. We have a solid body of Swamp Ash (great for resonance and overtones) and an arched top of Flame Maple. The neck is a ‘through’ design and is made of Maple, Walnut and Paduak with Carbon Fibre rods for reinforcement.
The fingerboard is Ebony and feels pretty lovely! It has a 12-16” compound radius to make chording and shredding equally comfortable. Two octaves’ worth of Extra Jumbo stainless steel frets attest to the quality on display here. Small offset Abalone dots serve as tasteful and subtle fret markers.
In terms of hardware, this guitar is absolutely cutting edge. Schecter have selected a pair of Fishman Fluence Modern active humbuckers here for the firepower! These ceramic beasts are capable of planet-smashingly heavy tones and more & more top-tier heavy players are using them.
Following this traditional of high quality hardware, Schecter use a Hipshot hardtail bridge with a String Through Body design to increase resonance and sustain. The playing feel is great: you can really dig into riffs with wild abandon, safe in the knowledge that you will not be throwing your tuning sharp like you might on a floating trem!
We love this new series of SLS models: the quality of components and construction across the board is sky high, the finishing is wonderful (check out that Antique Fade Burst finish over those flames in the Maple!) and the overall effect is extremely satisfying.
