PRS Silver Sky John Mayer, Rosewood, Roxy pink Overview
The Silver Sky is the product of a collaboration between John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith, who have worked together for several years, to create a guitar that combines PRS’s renowned high-quality build with aspects of John Mayer’s favourite vintage guitars from1963-64. It has been developed with incredible attention to detail and is the result of two and a half years of research and development.
The Silver Sky John Mayer in Roxy Pink has a lightweight alder body that delivers a balanced tone and has a body shape that’s based on the PRS DC3 that’s been tweaked slightly to make it perfect. It
The neck is made from maple and has the signature PRS lower horn scoop which lets you access the frets easier, and has a 635JM profile. This is topped with a smooth rosewood fretboard with 22 PRS acoustic frets, which are slightly bigger than vintage frets but a little smaller than standard PRS frets.
The Silver Sky John Mayer has a steel tremolo bridge where the backplate sits flush to the body, meaning you can only drop the pitch which gives it a more vintage feel. It has a small set screw that lets you adjust it without the arm snapping off. This is paired with vintage style locking tuners which provide great tuning stability as well as making it easy to restring.
For pickups, the Silver Sky has three 635JM single-coil pickups which have been precisely engineered to John Mayer’s requirements, and are a blend of ‘63 and ‘64 pickups which deliver a well-rounded tone with a musical high end, and have a higher signal to noise ratio. The 5-way blade pickup selector switch lets you quickly adjust your tone.
To complete the Silver Sky is a classic PRS headstock that has been reversed to provide extra access on the underside of the fretboard by the nut, nickel hardware, small bird inlays on the fretboard, and a Roxy Pink finish which has been played by Mayer in the promo for his upcoming album release. Includes a PRS gig bag.
