Gibson Jim James ES-335, 70s Walnut Overview

The Gibson Jim James ES-335 is part of the Gibson Artist Collection, which is where popular musicians collaborate with Gibson to create their own signature guitars that are made to their exact specifications and preferences.

Jim James is the vocalist, guitarist, producer, and main songwriter for My Morning Jacket, as well as his own solo projects. The Gibson Jim James ES-335 has a 3-ply Maple/Poplar/Maple body with a maple centre block which improves sustain and reduces feedback.

The neck has a 26.75” scale length and is made from mahogany with a comfortable SlimTaper profile, which was made to promote speed and reduce fatigue.

The fretboard has a 12” radius, which means it’s flatter and easier to make string bends and is made from smooth Indian rosewood which has 22 medium jumbo frets and acrylic dot inlays.

Tuning stability is provided by the ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, and there’s also an Aluminium Stop Bar tailpiece that’s anchored by steel thumb-wheels and tailpiece studs and Kluson waffle back tuners.

For pickups, it has a pair of Calibrated T-Type pickups which are based on the popular ‘T-Top’ pickups. They deliver a more modern sound than the PAF but still has a classic sound. There are two volume and two tone controls that are hand-wired with CTS potentiometers to maximise response.

The Gibson Jim James ES-335 is completed with nickel hardware, a Jim James logo on the truss rod cover, an owl decal on the back of the headstock, and a classic nitrocellulose finish. A Custom Owl Decal Hardshell Case and a Gibson Accessory Kit are included.
