Gibson Custom Mike Ness 1976 Les Paul Deluxe Aged, GoldTop Overview

A stunningly crafted replica of the iconic Social Distortion guitarist’s 1976 Les Paul Deluxe - limited to just 100 pieces worldwide!

A True Punk Icon

Mike Ness is a legend in the punk community, having carved out a name for himself as the vocalist, lead guitarist and principal songwriter of Social Distortion. This limited-edition guitar is a collaboration between Mike Ness and the world-class Gibson Custom Shop’s Murphy Lab, who meticulously recreated Ness’ favourite instrument - a heavily modified 1976 Les Paul Deluxe. From the expertly aged nitrocellulose lacquer finish to the distinctive stickers, this Gibson Custom Les Paul oozes character.

Classic Construction

At the core of the Gibson Custom Mike Ness Les Paul and its riveting tone are its select tonewoods. The 2-piece plain Maple top is partnered with a Mahogany/Maple/Mahogany “sandwich” back, exactly as you’d find on mid-70s Les Paul. Compared to a traditional LP, this more Maple-heavy construction delivers a slightly brighter tone, with the singing sustain and warm resonance that you’d expect. The set-in 3-piece Maple neck is carved to a unique Mike Ness custom profile and features a buttery-smooth 1-piece Indian Rosewood fretboard. The 22 Jumbo frets give the Mike Ness LP a slick, modern feel and are perfect for expressive string bends or vibrato.

Rollicking Tone

On his original 1976 Les Paul Deluxe, Mike Ness swapped out the mini-humbuckers for P-90s. Ness opened for Neil Young on the Ragged Glory tour and was inspired to switch to P90 pickups after experiencing Young’s powerful tone. The Gibson Custom version stays true to this, with a pair of custom soapbar P-90 pickups that boast plenty of bark and bite. Whether you’re playing pristine clean or with lashings of gain, these pickups will sound rich and full with impressive note separation. The classic control scheme of individual tone/volume controls and a 3-way switchcraft selector can conjure a wide range of tones, from juicy warmth to crisp twang.

Premium Hardware

Gibson Custom have equipped the Mike Ness Les Paul Deluxe with premium hardware from Gotoh, making it a top-notch live and studio guitar as well as a sought-after collector’s item. The Dunlop Original Design straplocks keep the guitar secure during a performance, allowing you to play with supreme confidence. The nickel Gotoh tuners and Tone Pros Tune-O-Matic bridge ensure rock-solid tuning stability and intonation during sessions or rehearsals.

You don’t need to be a Social Distortion fan to appreciate the endearing punk charm, the artisanal craftsmanship and the characterful tone of the Mike Ness 1976 Les Paul Deluxe - be sure to grab one before they all go!
