Fender Tone Master Super Reverb Amp Overview

This Super Reverb is part of Fender’s Tone Master family of hybrid guitar amps. Fender’s acclaimed Tone Master series uses state-of-the-art DSP processing to present astoundingly accurate emulations of their classic Blackface amps, from the tone stack to the dripping spring reverb. As you can tell by the name, the Tone Master Super Reverb is a sonic and visual recreation of the 4x10 valve-equipped beast that is more reliable, significantly lighter and affordable.

The Legend Returns

The original Fender Super Reverb made its debut in 1963 and quickly gained a reputation for its beefy, loud and warm valve tone. What set the Super Reverb apart from the Deluxe and the Twin was the marriage of a mid-60s black panel with a large 4x10 cab - a match made in heaven. With the Tone Master version, Fender has faithfully recreated the distinctive look, sound & response of that legendary amp and combined it with modern features.

Faithful To The Core

Every aspect of the original Super Reverb has been carefully modelled, from the characteristic tone stack to the unmistakable tremolo & spring reverb effects. The result is a highly realistic playing experience that even the most discerning Fender and valve amp connoisseurs will appreciate. The glorious breakup as you crank up the volume, the massive headroom and the quintessential Fender sparkle is all here.

Lightweight Design

A key advantage of the Tone Master Super Reverb is that it retains the powerful sound of its valve-based sibling without the back-breaking weight. This is due to the amp’s hybrid design and the open-back meranti wood plywood cabinet. Weighing in at only 16kg (almost half the weight of the original), this is the one to go for if you’re regularly gigging and want that deep, luscious Super Reverb tone.

Packs A Punch

Whilst the Tone Master Super Reverb is a hybrid amp, fusing solid-state and digital technology, it can easily pack as much sonic punch as the original. There's tonnes of output and clean headroom on tap thanks to the impressive Class-D 200W digital amplifier, which can put out an SPL (sound pressure level) that’s comparable to the vintage classic. If you need to fill a
big stage or compete with an aggressive drummer, the Tone Master Super Reverb can do it without breaking a sweat.

Ready For The Road

As well as making it easier to cart around between gigs, the hybrid nature of the Tone Master Super Reverb also makes it a lot more reliable and tonally consistent on the road. You won’t have to worry about one of your valves suddenly failing before
a show or deal with the regular maintenance.

Onboard Attenuator

Alongside the bone-crushing weight, one of the disadvantages of the original Super Reverb was its ear-splitting volume that could easily overwhelm at a smaller venue. Despite this, the Fender Super Reverb is still beloved because nothing else sounds quite like it. Where the Tone Master version compensates for the sheer volume of the original is the handy 5-way onboard attenuator, which ranges from a very quiet 0.5W all to a full-tilt 45W. This allows you to use this amp for home practice and achieve the beautiful breakup that happens when a Blackface amp is maxed out - without giving yourself tinnitus, upsetting your bandmates or annoying your neighbours.

Direct Audio

If your sound engineer demands a completely silent stage or you want to record into your DAW, you can use the Tone Master Super Reverb’s balanced XLR output to send a direct signal to the mixing desk. The XLR out features two cabinet sim models, which can be used to retain the realism of your tone.

One IR emulates the famous bite of a cab mic’d with a Shure SM57 and the other is closer to a blooming Royer R-121 ribbon, so you have a couple of distinct flavours to choose from. There’s also a flat response option if you prefer to use your own IRs, a ground switch and a dedicated level control so you can stay on top of gain staging and noise.

Jensen Speakers Inside

It wouldn’t be a Fender Super Reverb without a quartet of 10" speakers, which are present and accounted for in the Tone Master version. Fender have equipped the Tone Master Super Reverb’s cab with genuine Jensen P10R alnico speakers, which deliver the weight, warmth and sparkle that you’d expect from a prized '60s Blackface amp. There’s a reason why vintage amp experts swear by Jensen speakers and you’ll quickly understand why once you’ve plugged into this amp.

Iconic Effects

One of the best-loved features of the classic Blackface amps is the built-in effects - a Spring Reverb and Tremolo. Fender has meticulously recreated these iconic effects in the Tone Master Super Reverb, from the lush, surf-ready drip of the Spring Reverb to the rich, soupy swing of the Tremolo. The Tone Master Super Reverb also comes with a rugged footswitch, so you can activate the effects hands-free.

Authentic Looks

Aside from the Tone Master logo, you wouldn’t be blamed for mistaking this amp for the real deal. Fender has truly nailed the entire look of the Tone Master Super Reverb, from the silver grille cloth to the textured black vinyl.

If you’ve been hunting for a fabled Fender Super Reverb, look no further than the Tone Master update. This amp has everything you love about the original with none of the drawbacks. Crisp funk, driving garage rock riffs, frenetic surf leads, roaring blues solos - this incredible amp can do it all and more.
