Fender Custom Shop 1960 Precision Bass Journeyman Relic, Fiesta Red Overview

Lovingly crafted by the Fender Custom Shop’s artisanal luthiers, this 1960 Precision Bass is a prime example of their commitment to making world-class instruments. Built with the finest tonewoods available and a period-correct spec, this P-Bass will please even the most discerning of vintage Fender aficionados.

Classic Feel & Sound

Based on a 1959 Precision Bass, this Fender Custom Shop instrument has an undeniably vintage character. You wouldn’t be blamed for mistaking it for one that was made decades ago. The reason why this P-Bass is called a 1960 model is due to its Quarter Sawn Maple neck, which has a smooth & effortlessly playable '60 Oval C profile. The neck is adorned with a top-quality AAA Rosewood fingerboard and topped with retro Vintage Upgrade 45085 frets. From Beach Boys to Beastie Boys, this P-Bass can excel at any classic or modern style you throw at it.

The 2-piece Alder body is the sonic foundation for this P-Bass, providing it with a full-bodied & balanced tone. A slight upper-midrange emphasis enhances note clarity. Whether you’re a picker or prefer to use your fingers, this bass will sound fantastic. The era-correct nitrocellulose lacquer finish promotes sustain and resonance as it helps the tonewood to “breathe” whilst gracefully ageing as time goes on.

Authentic Vintage Look

The Fender Custom Shop have given this 1960 Precision Bass their Journeyman Relic treatment. This is a more subtle process that gives this P-Bass the authentic look and feel of a golden-era made Fender that was taken care of and rarely gigged throughout the years. This P Bass has definitely seen some use, with the odd scratch, dent & light finish checking that you’d find on a well-loved vintage instrument.

Classic P-Bass Tone

Amplifying the robust natural tone of this 1960 Precision Bass is its 59-62 split single-coil pickup, which is an accurate recreation of one that you’d find in a P-Bass from this era. The classic P-Bass tone is a truly iconic sound and this particular model nails it. Simple and beautifully effective is the best way we can describe it!

Modern Reliability

Compared to a Precision Bass that was made in the '50s or '60s, this Custom Shop model is far more reliable whilst retaining that special quality that you’d find in a vintage Fender guitar. The Custom Shop employ modern techniques and use premium components to create instruments that imbue the best qualities of classic and contemporary. This is the P-Bass you’ll want to bring to your performance or recording session if you want that legendary tone.

Boasting a striking Fiesta Red finish and anodized gold pickguard, this Fender Custom Shop Precision Bass certainly has a look to match its vibrant sound and smooth playability. It’s hard to deny the stunning quality and arresting tone of this masterful instrument.
