Epiphone Inspired by Gibson J-45, Aged Vintage Sunburst Overview
The Gibson J-45 is the most famous and widely used Gibson acoustic guitar ever made. The J-45 is an iconic guitar, lusted after by guitar players across the world. Lovingly referred to as “The Workhorse”, The J-45 has been considered the perfect guitar for singer-songwriters, due to how comfortable it is to play and it's extremely versatile sound. Its popularity has been validated by sitting on the bellies of some of the biggest artist’s in the world, from Bob Dylan to Billy Joe Armstrong and all the James Blunts in between. Bob Dylan reverted to playing a sunburst J-45 since the mid-1990s. Dylan first owned a J-45 in 1962 and the sound of a J-45 is all over Dylan’s early albums.
Epiphone is renowned for making high-quality instruments at an affordable price tag. Despite a few downgrades here-and-there from their Gibson counterparts, the Inspired By Gibson J-45 is a fantastic option for those looking for a guitar at a more modest price tag.
The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson J-45 is constructed with a solid Sitka Spruce top and Solid Mahogany Back and Sides. Sitka spruce is the most common spruce wood in use today. Sitka spruce is good for volume and will age nicely over the first four or five years of the guitar’s life, improving with time. Mahogany is the undersung hero of tonewoods. Always cheaper than rosewood, this may have led some to consider it lesser than rosewood. Nowadays there is little difference in price and it is becoming more prized due to there being more issues around obtaining all woods. Tonally mahogany is sweet- sounding in the midrange like its cousin Sapele and naturally compresses whether you play chords or single notes. A nice byproduct of this is that it seems to mesh really well with other instruments rather than challenge them.
The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson J-45 has a Short Scale Length, measuring at 24.724". This is called ‘short scale’. Short scale lengths cause the strings to be held under a lower tension at concert pitch. This means slightly less volume but the strings are more forgiving. The fundamental note rings very clearly with fewer overtones.
The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson J-45 is fitted with a bone nut and saddle, which offers a better sound and is far more durable than a plastic-made one, a comfortable rounded C neck profile, 20 medium jumbo frets, the 60s style Kalamazoo headstock shape and a gorgeous Aged Vintage Sunburst finish. The Fishman Sonicore under-saddle pickup and Sonitone preamp make this Workhorse stage-ready too.
An optional hardshell case is sold separately, which is the Epiphone Case for Dreadnought.
