Cranborne Audio 500ADAT Overview
Cranborne Audio 500ADAT
Supercharge your ADAT-equipped audio interface with this ultra-versatile and ruggedly built expander.
Level Up Your Interface
On the surface, the Cranborne Audio 500ADAT is a high-current 8-slot 500 series rack, an 8-in/8-out ADAT expander, an analogue summing mixer and a zero-latency artist mixer with reference-grade headphone outputs - all within a compact 4U chassis. The 500ADAT is far more than a way to expand the I/O of your ADAT-ready audio interface. It allows you to integrate your choice of 500 series modules into your workflow, streamline your tracking and mixing sessions and create your ultimate digital/analogue hybrid setup.
Analogue Magic
Whether you want to track fat, crunchy drums with vintage-style preamps, record pristine strings with the cleanest processors or create a dream channel strip by mixing SSL, Neve and API modules, the 500ADAT can be tailored to your tastes. The possibilities are massive!
The functionality doesn’t stop at the tracking stage. The 500R8 also allows you to use your 500 series modules as 8 analogue “plug-ins”. Using the dedicated module switches for each 500 series slot, you can send ADAT outputs from your audio interface to 500ADAT, into your installed modules and back to your interface - with that sweet analogue character applied.
When it’s time to mixdown your track, the 500ADAT can function as an 8-into-2 high-headroom analogue summing mixer to give your music that finishing glue and polished quality. With the tactile level and pan controls at your fingertips, you can take a hands-on, old-school approach to mixing. Once you’ve created your high-headroom analogue mix, you can record it back into your DAW using the output jacks on the rear panel.
Digital Might
You can count on the Cranborne Audio 500ADAT 8-slot 500 series rack to capture all the nuances of your analogue signal, without any digital artefacts. This is thanks to the 500ADAT’s exceptional A/D-D/A conversion, low-noise floor, wide dynamic range and THD+N of <0.00032% (@ -4dBFS, 1kHz, A-wtd). All this impressive digital performance is governed by the ultra-fast internal clock, which boasts <0.5 picoseconds of jitter.
Powerful ADAT Interface
As you can tell by the name, the Cranborne Audio 500ADAT features ADAT connectivity. Simply connect up your ADAT-equipped interface via the ADAT lightpipe ports to expand your interface with 8 additional input channels at 44.1kHz to 96kHz or 4 at a seriously high 176.4/192kHz. Plus, the 500ADAT makes annoying tangles of analogue cabling and mismatched operating levels between your interface inputs/module outputs a thing of the past!
Superb Artist Mixer
Cranborne Audio have outfitted the 500ADAT with two audiophile-level headphone amplifiers. These high-headroom amps pack plenty of volume to accommodate the loudest drummers and deliver enough power to drive the most demanding headphones - letting you experience your cans at their full potential. The two aux buses allow you to create crystal-clean, zero-latency analogue cue mixes for your artists, which can then be blended with DAW playback.
CAST Ready
C.A.S.T., which stands for Cat 5 Analogue Snake Transport, is Cranborne Audio’s innovative all-analogue, no latency system that’s unique to their hardware and requires no setup to get going. This system saves you money, costing a lot less than a traditional analogue multi-core, and makes cable management around your studio a lot easier. Thanks to C.A.S.T., you can use readily-available Cat 5e, Cat 6 and Cat 7 networking cables to send 4 channels of balanced analogue audio - with one cable - up to 100m.
The 500ADAT is equipped with 4 C.A.S.T. IN ports so you can hook up any of your C.A.S.T. equipped devices like the N22 and N22H to make relocating I/O around your studio a breeze.
