Boss Katana Bass 210 160W Combo Overview

Powerful, feature-packed and ultra-versatile 160-watt bass combo amplifier with a stage and studio-primed sound and plenty of tonal options.

Bass Refined

The BOSS Katana Bass series takes everything that made the Katana guitar amplifiers immensely popular with guitarists across the globe and tailors it to the serious bassist. When the first Katana amp was released, it raised the bar on the features, build quality and sound that an affordable guitar amplifier can offer. With their Katana Bass range, BOSS has done it again with the bass guitarist in mind. Whether you’re a touring professional, a studio session musician or a weekend warrior, you’re bound to love the BOSS Katana Bass range’s versatility, flexibility and wealth of handy features.

Class AB Power

The Katana-210 Bass combo delivers top-tier amplification that harnesses decades of BOSS’s expertise. Powering the Katana-210 Bass amp’s present, punchy and authoritative sound are 160 watts of class AB power. The class AB design means the Katana-210 Bass can compete with class D-powered amps at least four times the wattage without breaking a sweat. With the Katana-210 Bass’s class AB power amp - massive headroom, thunderous low-end presence and seriously smooth, natural overdrive as you increase the gain is the name of the game.

Three Amp Types

With three distinctive amp types and a three-way Shape switch for each model, you can adapt the Katana-210 Bass to any musical context with ease. First up is Vintage, which presents a warm, organic valve-style tone that has a gorgeous natural drive. Next is Flat, a smooth and dynamic setting with a rich harmonic character. Finally, there’s Modern, which delivers a fast dynamic response and extended bass response that’s suited to contemporary styles.

Commanding Tone

BOSS equip the Katana-210 Bass combo amp with a pair of custom-designed speakers. These dual 10-inch woofers pack a punch and provide a potent fullness that can easily fill a large stage. The speakers are housed within a rock-solid combo cabinet and complimented by a high-definition tweeter for superb note clarity. The tweeter can be switched off for a more old-school tone or left on for slap bass or other modern playing techniques. Thanks to the efficient bi-amped design, you can count on the Katana-210 Bass amplifier to consistently deliver a clear, balanced sound.

Quality BOSS Effects

Like with the Katana guitar amps, the Katana-210 Bass features high-quality BOSS effects onboard. BOSS is an undisputed legend in the world of effects so you can count on the built-in effects to sound amazing. There’s a dedicated comp/limiter and drive section for core processing of your bass tone. FX1 and FX2 are loaded with effects from the BOSS bass effects library. An impressive selection of effect processors is at your disposal, from classic modulations such as Flanger and Chorus to fat Octave and Bass Synth. FX2 also boasts delay and reverb for lush spacial effects. By connecting your Katana-210 to the free BOSS Tone Studio editor, you can expand your sonic palette with over 60 effects types.

Effortless Layout

You don’t need to be a gearhead to get an incredible sound out of the BOSS Katana-210 Bass amplifier - the highly intuitive panel layout makes tweaking and tailoring your sound effortless. The studio-style Blend control lets you introduce your bass’s dry signal, which can be pre-shaped with three customisable settings for ultimate tonal fusion. Further tone sculpting is catered for by a comprehensive four-band EQ that lets you optimise your sound for any venue or band mix. The EQ’s low-mid and high-mid bands can be shifted between three frequency centres for extra flexibility.

Ready To Gig

The BOSS Katana-210 Bass combo amp is a top-notch solution for gigging bassists. Aside from its hefty, authoritative tone, the Katana-210 Bass features six Tone Setting memories that allow you to store and instantly recall your favourite setups. Once you’ve set up your favourite preamp, EQ, Blend and effects settings, you can save it for later and switch between other memories during a performance. Stored memories can be chosen using the panel or with an optional expression pedal, footswitch or controller such as the GA-FC for hands-free control. If you want to change your sound on-the-fly during a performance, grabbing a BOSS foot controller is highly recommended. Other useful utilities include a balanced XLR output, a switch that selects whether the direct, pre or post signal is sent through and a speaker jack for hooking up an external cab.

Recording Companion

When its time to record your bass guitar or practice at home, the BOSS Katana-210 amp is ready to go. With the variable Power Control, you can attain juicy, dimed-amp tones at a volume that won’t upset your family/housemates/neighbours/pets. The headphone/recording output acts as a direct output with effects and features three Air Feel settings for that authentic mic’d amp tone. USB connectivity lets you interface the Katana-210 Bass with your music production software of choice.

Free Software Editor

The free BOSS Tone Studio editor software lets you deep dive into your Katana-210 Bass amplifier and intuitively explore all of its features. Performing bassists are sure to adore the option to organise sounds into Live Sets. Tone tweakers can take precise control over the Katana-210 Bass amp’s preamp, EQ, Blend and effect parameters. Using the optional BOSS Bluetooth Audio MIDI Dual Adaptor, you can use your compatible iOS or Android device to adjust your settings wirelessly.

Katana-110 Bass

If you’ve got the space, play in large spaces or simply need a tonne of headroom the Katana-210 is the one to go for as the Power Control feature lets you adapt the amp to smaller venues or home practice. The Katana-110 Bass is a more compact and affordable alternative to the Katana-210 Bass if you’re on a budget or need to conserve space.

If you’re a bass guitarist that wants a fully-featured, compact combo amp for gigs and studio work, the Katana-110 Bass is very hard to beat for the price.
