Overview by GAK
The Yamaha P-515 is the flagship model of the Yamaha P Series. It works in a variety of settings - playing gigs in small venues, school choirs, entertaining in care homes, rehearsing with a band or just practising at home. The P515 has the world-famous sounds of the Yamaha CFX Grand and the Bösendorfer Imperial Concert Grand Piano, plus a further 500 voices, which lets you find the specific sound you’re looking for. It also has a Natural Wood X (NWX) Keyboard - high-quality wood topped with synthetic ivory, and the black keys are made from synthetic ebony. The P515 has the feel of the escapement mechanism that’s found in grand pianos, which hammers away from the strings quickly after they strike them, so it doesn’t interfere with string vibrations. Housed in an elegant, yet compact and portable design, the P515 is an attractive addition to your home and a reliable, eye-catching instrument on stage.
Rhythm Patterns
The P515 has 40 different rhythm patterns including rock, pop, jazz, latin, kids, and holiday rhythms, which allows you to experiment with playing in different genres, helps you play in time, and makes playing more varied and fun.
Sound
The P515 has two 15W plus 5W amps, with a two-way speaker system (two 12cm x 6cm oval speakers and two 2.5cm dome speakers) which provides an immersive, clear and accurate piano experience. The speaker systems allow you to play loud enough at small venues without needing external amplifiers.
The P515 uses Binaural Sampling for the CFX Grand voice, and Stereophonic Optimiser for other Voices in the piano group, which reproduces a natural sound distance, so even if you listen through headphones, the sounds still seem like they are coming from the piano itself, making it sound natural and realistic. The 40 different rhythm patterns let you play along to backing tracks from various genres like rock, pop, jazz, salsa, latin, and more, letting you improve your playing ability, learn to play in different styles, and to make playing more varied and fun.
The Twisted Flare Bass Port offers a precise and clear bass sound. The twisted shape evenly diffuses the airflow through the port, which reduces air turbulence noise. It also has VRM (Virtual Resonance Modeling). In simple terms, this means you get richly-varied expressions that reflect the unlimited number of factors in a piano performance, as the piano can calculate the various states of the strings for each of the 88 keys in a concert grand piano.
The P515 has six types of reverb - Recital Hall, Concert Hall, Chamber, Cathedral, Club, and Plate, and 3 types of Chorus - Chorus, Celeste, and Flanger, offering a variety of ways to get just the right sound. Key-off samples replicate the sound when you release a key (‘key off’), depending on how fast your fingers leave the keys, available on certain Voices. Just another example of attention to detail, making the P515 sound just like an acoustic piano.
Piano Room feature
The ‘Piano Room’ lets you adjust various features at the touch of a button, such as changing the position of the piano lid on the screen, which gives you a louder sound the more you open the lid, adjusting the ‘Touch’, so if you need a lighter touch to the keys, you can select one of the Soft1 or Soft2 options, with the default being Medium. The P515 has the largest range of touch sensitivity - Hard2, Hard1, Medium, Soft, Soft2, and Fixed.
Recording
One of the best features is that the P515 also works as a 16-track MIDI recorder. Record and store up to 250 MIDI songs in the 1.4MB internal memory, and export your recordings to edit and play on your computer with the USB flash drive or the USB to Host port. This makes the P515 great for musicians who want to record their music as well as play, being able to do it all directly on the piano.
If you just want to listen to your favourite songs, use Bluetooth to connect your smartphone or MP3 and turn the P515 into a speaker system.
